La memoria fisica della materia (The physical memory of matter), through a selection of artists of different generations, aims to highlight the experimental mosaic practices in Ravenna, where materials that characterized the technique in ancient times are explored in their presence and effectiveness through the search for shapes, spaces, balance, and contrasts beyond any representational intent.
The works by di Paolo Racagni, Marco Santi, Valentino Montanari, Almuth Schöps, Felice Nittolo, Sergio Policicchio, Toyoharu Kii, Daniele Strada, Marco Bravura, Verdiano Marzi, Stefano Mazzotti, Takako Hirai, CaCO3, and Sara Vasini give to the material presence of tesserae a vital role in the composition, the analysis of a new degree of space, and the freedom of experimentation.
