Crisalide is a confession and the result of an artistic work built on material relations, interweavings and symbolic vibrations. The work is a translation of a geometric shape, a double truncated cone: the mosaic bark that covers its surface is as black as lava, moved by abstruse signs, by flashes of light that linger on anomalous tiles made of discarded objects as well of gold and precious colours that emerge as chromatic flashes. Crisalide encounters the abstract conceptual thought that Stefano Mazzotti has been elaborating for a long time, pursuing the seduction of the materials and subjecting the tension of the shapes in space to the chromatic lyricism of the mosaic. The twisted head at the top of the structure is covered with luminescent gold tiles; the gaze is staring but it lets out a cry from its half-closed lips. That head is lit by the red touch of a beating butterfly wing, a symbol of rebirth, a form that is creative and transient at the same time, an emblem of the ephemeral and eternally lasting. It reveals itself to be an appeal to humankind that refuses to step back from its self-destructive madness; it is a sign, a fragment and a spell, a cry against a fatal and unjust fate of condemnation.
