“In recent years I have been thinking a lot about waste materials and waste. I used nonnoble materials: debris from demolitions, processing waste, the so-called “special waste”. Otherwise, I used the rubbish of our daily life, disposable objects that are industrially produced in infinite numbers, destined to be hastily chucked away. Artistic mosaic techniques neglect such materials, preferring more precious or natural ones. But in the present day, nature and artifice mix and tend towards balancing each other out. We are currently in the Anthropocene geological epoch, where the principle of the conceptual purity of certain natural materials is nullified as everything is now contaminated by human impact. Scrap, waste and debris are considered raw materials. Everything is natural. These materials will never be rejected and refused again”. Marco De Santi
