How do we perceive experiences and events today? Our reactions and thoughts are especially dependent on our internal belief system. Inconvénient is a project by Barbara Liverani who wants to reflect on the relationship between mosaic and photography as opposite and complimentary languages. One has the goal of expressing playful sensations, aesthetics and levity while the other incites reflection on messages about important topics like immigration or the squandering of the planet’s resources - Plant and animal - to uncontrolled and consumeristic ends. It is exactly this counterpoint, between these two artistic techniques, that becomes topical nowadays and that becomes a metaphor for a sense
of inadequacy, dissonance and paradox: us living our lives, seemingly peaceful and safe, despite being spectators of catastrophes and perpetual suffering. This is why Liverani’s project represents her attempt to fight the urgency to act and the tendency to turn a blind eye to everything that is
happening. “I had to do it, because at a certain point I had the sensation that there was overwhelming superficiality and we can’t just pretend not to see what is happening to the planet. And it’s not that I have suddenly become a paladin of social problems, but I woke up from my torpor and I want others to wake up too.” says Liverani. Her exhibit features jewelry, made in micro-mosaic, they are paired with photographs organized into small series, each one is connected to a specific theme that is dear to the artist.
