In 1959, the Institute of Art for the Mosaic was born, dedicated to the famous Futurist painter and sculptor Gino Severini, who was linked to mosaics through a personal interest. This is the only school in Europe that trains mosaicists who are experts both in the execution and restoration of ancient
copies, and in the creation of modern works, now increasingly used in the decoration and architectural design of urban furnishings. The Academy of Fine Arts of Ravenna, inaugurated back in 1829, focuses on the Mosaic as a contemporary visual language, in a city as rich in history and culture as Ravenna. The mosaic is, therefore, proposed as a fascinating language in which tradition and modernity intertwine
