Tribute to Ilana Shafir is a personal exhibition of mosaics by the Israeli artist Ilana Shafir, an important figure in contemporary mosaics. Shafir is a founding member of the International Association of Contemporary Mosaicists (AIMC). An innovator and respected mosaicist, Shafir has been a lover of the mosaic heritage of the artistic life of Ravenna. Her ties with the city and its community of mosaicists and experts date back many years.

Shafir is recognised internationally for her innovative approach and unique method of working which she calls Spontaneous Mosaic. She never produces preliminary sketches but allows the materials to guide her work.
This exhibition presents a selection of Shafir's works produced from 2006 to 2011. Visitors will have a rare opportunity to see original works by Ilana, unique for their sculptural complexity and the wide range of materials which includes ceramic pieces which she makes by hand especially for use in her mosaics.
